WATER POLO LEAGUE
We are volunteer parents juggling family, careers and are ALWAYS looking for any support either time or money, small or large!
The mission of Virginia Beach High School Water Polo is to expand the sport of water polo in the Tidewater region of Virginia by providing opportunities for athletes to learn and compete in the game of water polo and to foster lifelong health, fitness, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Water Polo is an aquatics sport that is tremendous amount of fun and great workout. Many Division I, II and III swim programs require their swimmers to participate in Water Polo off season to reduce burnout and improve team morale. In 1900 it became the first team sport in the Olympic Games. Since then the U.S. has won at least 11 medals. Approximately 64 universities have women's NCAA teams and 41 have men's teams.
For many years, Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation has provided a spring youth water polo recreation league serving middle school and high school athletes in our community.
Building on that foundation, a fall high school water polo season was introduced in 2018 after water polo was approved to operate as a co-ed club sport within Virginia Beach High Schools, creating additional opportunities for students to participate during the school year.
In 2019 the Virginian Pilot featured our program: First Full Season of Club Water Polo Coming to Virginia Beach.
Since then, the fall high school program has grown within the city and at one point hosted as many as seven teams.
Many VBHS Water Polo alumni have continued to play beyond high school. Some universities our alumni attend and play include; Pepperdine University, Grove City College, University of Alabama, Virginia Tech, James Madison University, Virginia Military Institute, the University of Virginia, and at the United States Naval Academy. A few times through the year, some VBHS Water Polo alumni get to play against each other at club collegiate water polo games or tournaments.
Many friendships formed during VBHS Water Polo League participation carry through high school, to college and beyond with the Masters program fostering lifelong health, fitness, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship
As participation and community interest have grown, VBHS Water Polo, doing business as (d.b.a.) Coastal Virginia (CoVA) Water Polo, was established as a nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This structure helps support sustainable programming and expanded opportunities for youth athletes. Contributions may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law under IRC Section 170.
VBHS Water Polo has earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, reflecting a commitment to accountability and openness within the community.
